Introduction to the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Admission Policy

The Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) is located in Musashino, Tokyo. It has a history stretching back to 1874, when its predecessor organizations—the Agricultural Training Institute (the foundation for the Faculty of Agriculture) and Silkworm Disease Experiment Section (the foundation for the Faculty of Engineering)—are included. The present TUAT was established as a university in 1949. Since its founding, TUAT has followed a course focusing on agricultural science and engineering—the two academic fields supporting agriculture and industry, which form the backbone of human society—while also coming to encompass a wide range of related fields, and has grown into a distinguished university of science and technology unparalleled throughout the country.
The fundamental philosophy of the university is that we must directly address all obstacles to the goal of becoming a sustainable society that have manifested in the society and technology of the twentieth century and contribute to the development of science and technology that is in harmony with world peace, society, and the natural environment through education and research founded on free thinking in the fields of agricultural science, engineering, and interdisciplinary fields while striving to produce the people and knowledge for overcoming these obstacles and achieving this goal. We are championing this fundamental philosophy with the expression "MORE SENSE: Mission Oriented Research and Education Giving Synergy in Endeavors toward a Sustainable Earth." Having clearly expressed our nature and function, we are working diligently to solve the challenges that humanity faces in the twenty-first century.

Undergraduate Program
The TUAT undergraduate program prioritizes the voluntary and self-directed learning of its students and produces individuals fully equipped with the knowledge, knowledge-building skills, problem-identification skills and problem-solving skills to be expected from a university of science and technology.
The disciplines and subjects of the entrance examination are determined according to the university's philosophy and the educational objectives of both the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Engineering. The university looks for and accepts individuals with a clear sense of purpose. In particular, the university accepts a broad range of applicants from throughout the world who are interested in natural science and technology, and who devote themselves to their studies with strong motivation and independence.

The objective of the Faculty of Agriculture is to help resolve problems in agricultural science, life science, environmental science and veterinary medicine, and help build a sustainable society by providing a broad range of knowledge together with fundamental and specialized knowledge and producing pioneering, upstanding and thoughtful individuals capable of contributing to humanity who are well-versed in cultural issues, have a strong sense of ethics, and have a deep understanding of international issues.

The Faculty of Engineering teaches fundamental and specialized scientific and technological knowledge and skills in the field of engineering, and develops curiosity about the truths of nature and the skills necessary to identify the essence of problems that require solving. The Faculty of Engineering seeks to produce pioneering, upstanding and thoughtful individuals who have both the specialized knowledge and a broad understanding of cultural issues that enables them to help create a sustainable society and who can contribute to the betterment of humanity.
